THE BATTLE OF BRITAIN.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Tuesday July 22nd 2003 Glasgow Celtic v Manchester Utd
Seattle, Washington.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The two top teams in Britain,
went to have a battle,
5,000 miles away from home,
in the city of Seattle.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 We arrived three days before the game,
to get adapted to the town,
to meet the local clients
and sup some cider down.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 A climate just like Britains,
in the fact it always rains,
and a city of hi tech industry
where they manufacture planes.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 We found a local gin – joint
and made it our headquarters,
as the locals fled the city,
and locked up all their daughters.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 The Celtic fans were well dug in,
they’d taken over most downtown,
and all along the dockside,
the Glasgow lingo could be found.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 The United fans arrived later,
filtering in on Monday night,
adding to the atmosphere,
with their songs of the red and white.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 We met Bob Charlton and Pat Crerand,
Red Devils from days gone by,
strolling amongst the natives,
totally unrecognised.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 July the twenty second,
in the year 2003
thousands of football fans
converged on this ci – ty.

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 The saloon doors opened early,
to serve up beer and food,
and to make sure that by eight o’clock
the fans were in the mood.

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 The songs flowed out of tavern fronts,
melting in the rush hour air,
the songs of Jinky Johnstone,
Henrikk and Yogi Bear.

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 Up the hill, — on Main Street,
it was a different noise,
as they sang of Eric Cantona,
Matt Busby and the boys.

13 Leave a comment on verse 13 0 The Seahawk Stadium was magnificent,
it’s only twelve months old,
surrounded by skyscrapers,
and sixty eight thousand it can hold.

14 Leave a comment on verse 14 0 Outside the ground, the surrounding streets,
were a sea of green and white,
but once inside the stadium,
it was a different sight.

15 Leave a comment on verse 15 0 The United merchandise machine,
charged 75 bucks a top,
and soon there was as many red shirts,
as you’d see on the Anfield Kop.

16 Leave a comment on verse 16 0 ” I want one with BECK — HAM on it,”
whined a noisy American kid,
who was politely informed by a northerner,
that he’d effed off to Madrid.

17 Leave a comment on verse 17 0 United took an early lead,
in minute number eight,
Van Nistelrooy beating Hedman,
and showing why he’s great.

18 Leave a comment on verse 18 0 Celtic should have equalized,
when Petrov won a pen,
but Alan Thompson’s spot kick,
ended up around row ten.

19 Leave a comment on verse 19 0 “My Ghaddd !!!!!!! ”
they should have let BECK — HAM take it,”
an American football wizard cried,
” he would have known how to bend it,
and not let the sah-ccer ball rise.”

20 Leave a comment on verse 20 0 Giggs he scored a second,
and Ole Solskjaer grabbed a third,
and it took the crowd out of the game,
and no more chants were heard.

21 Leave a comment on verse 21 0 Bellion scored on his debut,
to make the final score four nil,
and the Celts left disappointed,
like they did back in Seville.

22 Leave a comment on verse 22 0 The fans poured out of the stadium,
into the many pubs nearby,
where the United sang of Keano,
and the Celts of Athenry.

23 Leave a comment on verse 23 0 There was songs of Johnny Thomson,
of Charlton, Best and Law,
the locals said the likes of it
they’d never seen before.

24 Leave a comment on verse 24 0 The original Skid Row off Pioneer Square,
got drunk bone dry, that night,
and despite the amount of guzzling,
there was not a single fight.

25 Leave a comment on verse 25 0 It was ‘SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE’
for the greens and for the reds,
but the next morning it became,
the City of sore heads.

26 Leave a comment on verse 26 0 So everyone slowly drifted back,
to their cities of abode,
but we had another day to kill,
so we tied on another load.

27 Leave a comment on verse 27 0 So the United merchandise jugganaut,
heads off to naive L.A,
and the boys of Glasgow Celtic,
in Cleveland they will play.

28 Leave a comment on verse 28 0 The next time they will play again,
is unknown to both camps,
but it would be nice if it was in Europe,
to decide who is the Champs.

29 Leave a comment on verse 29 0 If they did I’m sure it would be,
a much more bruising battle,
much unlike the one sided affair,
on the green field in Seattle.
