The Battle on Wembley Green

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 In 1966 we took a little trip
Along with Mr Ramsey in our English football strip
We took along old Nobby and we took along the Queen
And we met the Germans on that famous Wembley Green

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 We acquired our fun watching Bobby Charlton running
England fired plenty…drove their goalie up the pole
We fired once more but those German blokes were cunning
And within a dozen minutes Helmut Haller had a goal…………………..0-1

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 We looked to our winger as he crossed one way up high
You could see that ball a sailing through the cloudy summer sky
Geoff jumped so high you could hear Nat Lofthouse sing
We stood beside our English pals and cheered as it went in…………1-1

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 We acquired our fun watching Bobby Charlton running
Wilson backed up Peters in a great defending role
We fired once more and although they fought with cunning
Martin got ’em figured out and scored another goal………………………2-1

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 With just a minute left we got a big surprise
When Mr Wolfgang Webber put one in to equalise
Bobby’s boys protested but it was all in vain
The referee’s allowed it and the battle raged again!……………………..2-2

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 In minute ninty eight before the ref could blow full time
Hurst fired one off the crossbar and it bounced behind the line
The Germans shouted “No Goal!” but when the smoke had cleared
Ramsey’s mighty army had the Gerries in arrears……………………….3-2

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 The fans went wild and on the pitch they come
“THEY THINK IT’S ALL OVER” stated Kenneth Wolstenholme
No sooner had he said it… Hurst hit one like a jet
“IT IS NOW!” shouted Wolstenholme as that rocket hit the net…………4-2

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 We acquired our fun watching Ramsey’s Army running
The union jack waved lively in those memories so serene
We cheered once more and the sight was simply stunning
Seeing Bobby and our boys win that Battle on Wembley Green
