The Beeb Loves The Few

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Proud teams, proud towns – not much else but a
Football club; a name to conjure with for fans
Far and wide. But the BBC squeeze you out of
The frame when it comes to national coverage.
They fawn over the ‘top’ clubs – you know who
I mean – and ignore the rest; not viewer-friendly
Enough, of course. No matter we all pay the same
License fee; no matter many follow those beyond
The Premiership bubble. But all you get is a trite
Little item on Football Focus when the Cup rolls by.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 So carry on, Auntie – worship the same old, same
Few outfits; the cosy ex-pros who praise each other
And their golfing cronies in the safe TV world of life.
Nothing too controversial, nothing too deep, too risky.
Might upset the big wigs, you know. Just Bland, just
Boring, just Casual nothingness from Lineker and Co.
Every MOTD Saturday the same – and if you’re one of
The lesser lights it’s thirty seconds at the end, bye bye.
The tail wags the dog, democracy down the drain; we
Watch the same game, but not all the same teams – ever.
