The Blue Brazil

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 What has every club got in common
The answer is they’ve all got a nickname
From the giants of the Premier League
To the lowly who play the beautiful game.
The Scottish ones are a fan’s delight
For example Clyde are the Bully Wee
Hearts are known as the Jam Tarts
While Kilmarnock are just simple Killie.
Forfar Athletic are called the Loons
Ayr United are the Honest Men
Queen of the South are the Doonhammers
And there’s the Buddies of St.Mirren.
But we love our wildlife south of the border
Because the football league resembles a zoo
What with Swans, Owls, Canaries, and Eagles
On the prowl are Tigers, Wolves, and Lions too.
But some clubs don’t try that hard
Orient are the O’s and Colchester the U’s
While some just look at their kits
And decide on The Reds or The Sky Blues.
So let’s give a prize to the best nickname
The one that gives fans a lift and a thrill
So it’s back to north of the border
And to Cowdenbeath who are known as Blue Brazil !

Notes

Looking through a book of nicknames, I came across Cowdenbeath’s which by the way I think is great, but I wonder how it came about?
