The club that…. has won the flippin’ cup!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 They say that anything is possible
That any game is winable
That nothing’s unobtainable
If flesh and blood can kick a ball.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 You cling to these thoughts everyday
If you’re a follower of Whitley Bay
The club for years a figure of fun
Has been to Villa Park
…And won.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The club who’s pitch was once so bad
They used a goat to trim the grass

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Who sacked a useless boss of their’s
Then put the groundsman
In charge of team affairs

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Whose record transfer fee received
Was twelve match balls
Sent from Torquay

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Who won the league on one ocassion
Then left the trophy in a pub in Alston.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Then little success for forty years
Just tears of laughter
and often
Just tears.
But now there’s hope for the hardy souls
Who squint through fog
In search of goals

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Because at Hillheads Park where the tea is cold
But the pies so hot you cannot hold
Where the dressing room smells of cigs and liniment
And the PA annoncer has a speech impediment
In this unlikely and eccentric place
Success has left it’s magic taste
In the mouths of those who dared to dream
For their little club
And cracking team.
