The Coventry Comeback is on…

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I remember the ‘seventies
When ‘Sky Blues’ were talked of
It wasn’t depression over satellite TV
It was a trusty football club – dear Cov

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 They were Bantams till 1962
They started punching above their weight
Coventry qualified for the Fairs Cup
Everything on the pitch looked great

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 A turnaround in fortunes
Came with a man called Jimmy Hill
He brought happy times to Highfield Road
With a big heart, a chin and skill

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Times, of course, weren’t always good
That’s football – up and down
The ‘egg timer’ shirt worst in history
Retro before retro began – in chocolate brown

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Coventry had impressive times
In ’78 winning the FA Cup
Fast forward to Boxing Day twenty-eleven
Three more points on the board! Things are looking up…

Notes

Coventry 1 Bristol City 0

Hope yesterdays result brought much needed cheer to Coventry fans.
Coventry City always seemed to be dicing with relegation when I was a kid but they always seemed to escape. They were part of the top flight – First Division – and I wouldn’t have imagined their demise anymore than believe Norwich City would be in League One in 2009/10.

Coventry – three points on Boxing Day – the comeback begins!
