The Day of The Poets

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The score is still 0-0, at the 86th minutes.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Frost, throws the ball to Alan Ginsburg;
Ginsburg now has the ball, he sees Shakespeare
Who is waving wildly to acknowledge that he is unmarked.
Ginsburg sees Shakespeare and floats it to him;
Shakespeare chests the ball down,
Dribbles it up field to the half way line,
He sees Carvalho, the Portuguese defender, runs head on to tackle him;
Shakespeare promptly releases the ball to Langston Hughes on his right side.
Hughes traps the ball and looks way out to the wing
Where John Keats, marked by Asik of Turkey, is waiting to receive.
Keats makes a sudden dash forward, beating Asik
While Hughes promptly releases a ground ball to him;
Keats meets the ball, starts to dribble and dribble…
He sees Paolo Neruda trot next to England’s John Terry;
Keats signals to Neruda to run into the goal area,
And Neruda speeds up past Terry;
Keats passes the ball forward to Neruda,
Neruda, the poet, stretches his leg out to traps the ball,
Then lays it right back to Keats,
And Keats dashes to the ball and rockets it to the left of Vander Sar of Holland.
The Dutch goalie sees the ball and dives to his left, arms reaching for it,
But, a few inches too far to the ball, Vander Sar cannot contact with the ball.
The flying ball whizzes past him and the goal line, jolting the net.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Referee, Bill Clinton, promptly, blows his whistle,
His left arm raised, indicating it is a goal.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Keats raises his arms as he runs back to midfield.
T.S Elliot runs to him and hugs him,
Shakespeare also runs to the forward, shaking his hand,
Robert Frost jumps in ecstatic joy in front of his goal,
And Langston Hughes taps on Keats’ head as he runs by him.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Vander Sar looks on in disbelief,
Beckham, the captain of FIFA XI, wonder how and why,
John Terry shakes his head, sadly, gazing at the green turf,
Lionel Messi and Carlos Tevez of Argentina look at each other,
Landon Donovan walks back to the half way line to re-start the play.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Now, a match too late for the FIFA XI to win—-
While the POETS XI makes football history.
