The Day We Won The Cup

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I’m heading off to Wembley
to watch the Sky Blues play,
we’re playing in the Cup Final
it’s gonna be our day.
as Thousands of us City fans
we walk down Wembley Way,
excitement here is mounting
this special day in May.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The Sky Blue flags are flying
our song’s sung loud and clear,
my heart is bursting out with pride
It’s brilliant to be here.
And now at last the match kicks off
and Tottenham go one up,
but I’ve got this strange feeling
it’s our name on the Cup.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Our equaliser is deserved
as Benno finds the net,
but Tottenham take the lead again
and it’s not half-time yet.
The second-half is underway
attack follows attack,
the Spurs defence is shaky
we’re solid at the back.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 but then we grab a wonder goal
as Houchen dives through air,
one of the finest ever seen
I’m so glad that I was there.
It goes to dreaded extra time
it could go either way,
Tottenham are the favourites
can City wreck their day.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Then Sky Blue fans go crazy
a ball hits Mabbutt’s knee,
it’s in the net the Cup is ours
and bound for Coventry.
It;s one of those great days in life
that I will not forget,
when we took on the mighty Spurs
and put three in their net.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 We may not win the Cup again
but I don’t really care,
because in May in 87
we won and I was there!
