The Dirtiest Player

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The dirtiest player I ever did see,
Was seven or eight years ago.
He looked quite an ominous presence to me,
And boy, was I shortly to know!

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Now I was a bit of a slippery kid,
I knew all the tricks of the trade,
But he chopped me right down without batting a lid
As the very first challenge was made.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 I rolled and I rolled, with a comic effect,
Clutching my knee with the pain,
I thought that he’d rendered my ligaments wrecked,
As I gingerly got up again.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Two minutes later, I made a large back,
As I carefully shielded the ball.
But all of a sudden, there came a big whack,
As he went for me, body and all.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 By now I was aching, and both legs were sore,
But I hauled myself back on my feet,
But two minutes later, perhaps a bit more,
I was in for a nasty repeat.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 This time his boot came down hard on my foot,
Again I went rolling around.
Two minutes later, I slowly rose, but
I soon got knocked back to the ground.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 My wife then took action, got up from her chair,
And took our young son by the shoulder.
“Leave Daddy alone, Neil. It just isn’t fair,
He’s going on thirty years older.”
