The Eircom League is Back

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 There’s a whisper in the grass and in the leaves,
The chaffinches announce it from the eaves.
There’s a tremor in the breeze
As it rustles through the trees
And a frisson in the pattern that it weaves.
There’s a brand new Supernova
Shining brightly from the black,
For the wintertime is over
And the Eircom League is back.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 There’s a hope and optimism in the air,
And the murmur of a fervent, whispered prayer,
As a sweet angelic choir
Chorus hymns of strong desire,
With no hint of disappointment or desire.
We will dance the bossa nova
And eye up the Armagnac,
And give blessings to Jehovah
For the Eircom League is back.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 We’ll be counting down the minutes and the hours,
Checking clocks in office blocks and towers.
We’ll be racing home from work
With an overbearing smirk
And a bouquet of apologetic flowers.
Oh yes, we’ll sing the “Wild Rover,”
And look forward to the craic,
And we’ll all be in the clover,
For the Eircom League is back.

Notes

First game – away to Bray. Is there any joy like the anticipation of the first game of the season?
