The End Of Football As We Know It ..(for now)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I came across a wondrous poem
where football had been banned
from village greens to national teams
and right across the land

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 around this tiny planet
that spins aloft in space
the game just like Atlantis
had sunken without trace
it had become too big for us
and taken such a hold
that normal things like loving life
were left out in the cold

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 our endless competitions
that just dragged on and on
throughout the year there’d be somwhere
where football would be on
but not in my dream sadly
no ball was kicked again
just tears and frowns and empty grounds
without our precious game

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 we’d all returned to simpler things
to satisfy our thirst
and re-discovered quite a lot
but it was hard at first
no butterflies in tummies
no nervousness inside
no colours meaning everything
no local football pride

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 And so it was i found myself
distraught alone confused
with only stuff on cricket
and tennis on the news
what is this world I’ve landed on
without a rhyme or reason
I realised with htanks at last
we’re still stuck in pre-season
