The F.A.Cup Final

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 It used to be a big occasion
the whole family gathered
around the television.
I’d watch hours of the build up
know all the players names
and how they reached Wembley.
Even watch the brass band
and the man in a white suit
singing before the kick off.
The managers leading the teams out
the crowd singing their songs
the captains shaking hands.
I’d sit transfixed staring at the screen
kicking every ball for ninety minutes
dreaming about being there one day.
After the game I’d be over the fields
I’d be Callaghan, Hunt, or Greaves,
we’d play the final over again.
The F.A.Cup final was truly magical
the biggest day in the football season
the greatest cup competition in the world.

Notes

I hope the Stoke and Man City fans enjoy their big day tomorrow, when we won it in 87 it was going to be a once in a lifetime for us Cov fans,we’d never been in a final before and haven’t been back since. It was a great day which inspired me to write this.
