The Fans Sang Out For Celtic (1967)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 What joy was sung in Glasgow town
As the victory was described as majestic;
When Jock Stein’s team of emerald green
Came home as conquering heroes for Celtic.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Inter Milan, in their blue and black,
Were favourites as they journeyed to Lisbon,
But with God on their side and Jinky out wide,
The Celtic brought their fighting tradition.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The 25th of May, should be declared a holiday,
As the angels sang & danced in heaven,
As big Billy walked up, to lift Europe’s elite cup,
Glasgow, was a sea of celebration.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The fans sang out from every pub and bar,
As Celtic flags flew from tenement windows,
The fire in our souls, was enriched by the goals,
That came from Gemmell and bold Stevie Chalmers.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 My father and Grandad drank lager and stout
As they watched the game on our black & white TV,
And from our Maryhill close, they raised a wee toast,
And wrapped a green & white scarf around me.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Like every Celtic fan, they sang through the night,
And sang songs of Celtic and Ireland,
What history was achieved by Stein’s green & white team,
In the springtime of May’67.
