The Fans Sang Out for Jimmy Johnstone

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The old Hamden roar was raised once again
As heaven could hear the Celts singing,
Green banners flew high beneath Glasgow’s sky
As the fans sang out for Jimmy Johnstone.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Neil Lennon led the players onto the pitch
As our heroes appeared from the tunnel,
The Kingdom of Fife sang loud for their side
As Dunfermline faced Celtic in the League Cup Final.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 As the sun shone down on Hampden’s ground
Zurawski scored a goal before half-time,
As supporters we danced, sang out and clapped hands
Knowing Jinky was in heaven rejoicing

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The faithful of Celtic with pride in our hearts
Witness the talents of wee Shaun Maloney,
He took a free kick that battered the net
As it flew pass the Dunfermline goalie.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 But the game wasn’t done ‘til a new Celtic son
Engraved Celtic’s name onto the trophy,
As Dublin in his stride, for the old green & white,
His first goal for Celtic brought home glory.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 In Strachan’s first winning year, we shed one last tear
As we sang of the legend, Jimmy Johnstone,
The players on the pitch, in their green & white strips,
Paid tribute by wearing Jinky’s number 7.
