The Flowering of Cheltenham Town FC

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 In their first spring
The seeds of youth grew slow,
Grew strong,
That season of perennial learning:
McCann, Finnigan making midfield domain,
The back four shoring up
Gaps in the wall,
And the search
For a holy striker.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Their second spring came
As late as the May sunshine,
The final flowering in Cardiff:
As Guinan crossed
And Vincent, Odejayi stretched to connect,
The ball bounced twice –
Mildenhall rooted to the spot –
And a sea of red and white erupted
When the ball hit the net.

Notes

Inspired by Cheltenham Town’s victory over Grimsby Town at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, on 28th May 2006 where they won 1-0 to achieve promotion to League One.
