The Glorious Spirit Of Rome

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 1977 on the 25th of May
The titles ours but the FA Cup sadly gone astray
Bob he rallied the troops and we all marched on to Rome
The European Cup was soon to find its rightful home

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The first blood to us from the able boots of Terry Mac
But soon after half time Simonsen shoots and the Germans pull one back
Clem’s vital save from Stielike kept our hearts within our chests
The night is young, a while to go, we’ve still to see the best

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The score 1-1 we roared the Redmen on until our throats were dry
And then it comes, 2-1 to us, who scored? THE ANFIELD IRON!
The stars up in the Roman night dipped down to take a closer look
They knew the match they witnessed would go down in history books

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Emlyn he was magic and he wore the season’s biggest smile
Razor passed like Moses, Joey’s banners filled the skies
Heighway, Case and Cally, we couldn’t wish for finer men
You could even hear the cheers for us all the way from St Etienne

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Keegan soon was leavin’ but his Redman’s boots were sound
Bertie Vogts run ragged so he hacked Kev to the ground
Our nerves were frayed but up stepped our penno king Phil Neal
Coolest boots out on the pitch, there’s steel not jelly in his knees

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 The Angels up in heaven all gathered close to Jordan’s shore
Whilst St. Peter in between judgements called out “Moses what’s the score?”
Monet picked up his brushes, by the Redmen’s deeds inspired
“Red as summer poppies” he murmured with such obvious pride

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 The Kop went wild each heart on fire when the final whistle blew
Some Kopites jumped so high they had to climb down from the moon
They were sobbin’ at Utd for those Mancs could clearly see
That from the glory that was Rome Bob would go on and make it 3!
