The loss

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The whistlers final breath
exhales their victorious cheer
the taste bitter with winter cold
heading back is the hardest part
walk away
walk away.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Heavy heart in heavy rain
slowed down to make the most
of hiding the pain
running down our faces.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Not a word spoken
eyes lifted to heaven
prayers this time
left unanswered.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The water punches it’s orders
put your head down son
go home
drown yourself.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Hands in pockets
our refusal to buckle to the name calls
we came in proud
we’ll return.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Turn styles turn out without style
pouring this fandom of grief
upon the open streets
with open arms.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Taunts directed
horses cascading their dance away
we’re in no mood
we’ll have a go, if we have to.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 The outcome dissected
discussed in disapointed tones
the train lurches
our crutch till the evening draws.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 The loss left reeling in the dark
like some nightime, bedtime reading
running it over and over again
where’d it all go wrong.

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Nothing said for the mourning prayer
cigarette dragged meditation
patience
they can’t alway have it their way
some day they will pay
some day
some day.
