The Mighty Forest Green

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 there’s a new Green on the block
up here among these hills
we dither in the Conference
but thrive on Cup tie thrills

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 and most will struggle with the name
to be completely honest
the magic name of Nottingham
so long the only Forest

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 but on the New Lawn’s lofty pitch
this little Cotswold team
like Nailsworth’s famous poet tramp*
can stand awhile and dream

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 as now into that third round hat
at last they place our name
in this strange place where most prefer
that awful Rugby game

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 but while we can we’ll raise the flag
and get out all the bunting
move over farmer’s markets*
your polo* and your hunting*

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 move over Charles* and Sade*
Keith Allen* move on too
and Jilly Cooper step aside*
we’re bigger now than you

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 we’ carved their name in history
a century we’ve tried
among the cottages and sheep
our humble little side

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 move over Football Poets*
move over hippy Stroud*
we’re Forest Green and we still dream
our team have stood us proud.

Notes

FA Cup 2nd Round :Forest Green Rovers 2 Rochdale 0. First time ever in the 3rd Round!

* Forest Green sits on a hill above the picturesque little village of Nailsworth and is the home of WH Davies- the poet tramp (“What is this life if full of care”.etc) and normally mainly the home of polo, hunting, rugby, farming, new age therapists, poets, writers. artists, farmer’s markets, old hippies and loads of weekend celebs who live round here…Sade, Keith Allen .Jilly Cooper, Pince Charles etc ; and of course let’s not foorget nearby Stroud is also the original home of the Football Poets.
