The Only Things That Stop Him Are His Vices

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Promoted as champions.
All the work has paid off
All the talk has been realised
And critics and doubters are red faced.
Drink some champagne for once
Instead of whiskey and brandy
And all the other spirits.
Drink champagne while you can
And when you should.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Winning goes on.
You’ve always believed you’re the best
But now thousands tell you every day
Tell you so much you won’t forget it.
For meetings with friends
You share a little drink
And talk about players
Into the small hours of the night.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 When the wheels start to shake.
You’ve always dealt with a crisis
But sometimes they come hard and fast
And talking doesn’t help you.
You drink and think
You’ll find a way out of this
But you need another drink.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Slipping down the table.
How was it once so easy?
Send them out onto the pitch and they scored
But now they labour for nothing.
That taste of alcohol
Reminds you of winning,
It tastes of winning
So you pour another one
To bring the magic back.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The magic never went away.
It’s hidden underneath the drink,
Can’t find it’s voice because the throat is always full
With more liquid being thrown down it.
But you don’t think to put away the glass
Because it reminds you of victories and good times.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 The good times are over.
You never stop believing they’ll come back
That you’ll pick up more trophies
That players will want to play for you.
They could all come back
If you didn’t self-destruct
They could all come back.
