The Pendulum

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The fat lady sings,
And the pendulum swings,
And Shels are the favourites once more.
But everyone knows
You cannot write off Bohs,
Despite their “unfortunate” draw.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Back and forth, forth and back
Swings the pendulum’s track,
And I’m starting to feel pretty nauseous.
Do we go for attack
And leave three at the back
Or should we be careful and cautious?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Right to left, left to right,
‘Tis a hypnotic sight,
And I ‘m falling deep into a trance.
The highs and the lows,
Playing Pats, playing Bohs,
Clearing wildly, or missing a chance.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Only six games to go
And it swings to and fro,
And each match assumes massive status.
One referee’s blunder
Can push us asunder,
Or possibly serve to elate us.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 These swings for a start
Are not good for my heart,
From elation to crushing despair.
Extremes cause distress,
And ill health I should guess,
Or at least a distinct loss of hair.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 But when it’s all done,
And the league has been won,
And the victors have got their reward,
There’s no happy medium
Just mind-numbing tedium
And four months of sitting round bored.

Notes

Pats 0 Shels 1
Bohs 1 Waterford 1
Shels now one point ahead with six games to play. We have to play Bohs again shortly too. My blood pressure is way up.
