The Present Worth Returning

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 A cool cut field, a brand new net,
I’m playing first the game is set.
I enter slow to take it in,
the team, the coach, all want to win.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 But would it be so bad to fail,
to leave our pride to dry, go stale.
I know they say go play and try,
but I’d give up now and here is why.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 The game was once my pride and joy
but I’d become my nations toy.
I’d play my best and score the goals,
but all I’ve earned is what controls.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 I left the league went on my way,
I’ll play the game some other day.
I’m not just done, quit, or through,
I’ll play the game just me, not you.

Notes

This poem is a reflection of the pressures a professional soccer player could possibly face. Although I doubt it, it came easy into words.
