He stands on the shore at Edinburgh,
And gazes across his domain,
And the boats idle by

He’s in charge of this body of water,
And he often goes out on patrol,
Surveying his realm
From the motor boat’s helm,
Assuming a quiet control.

He holds up his luminous numbers
To the crowds on each side of the Firth,
And he does a good job
For a few measly bob
Ne’er resorting to humour or mirth.

In a manner that’s quite superficial.
Oh yes, life can be dull,
When your day’s scarcely full,
So let’s hear it for the Forth official.
