The Silent Ma(nc)jority

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 As an interesting Chablis
And prawn salad sandwiches
Silenced home end of the pitch
“Shall we teach you how to sing?”
Rang out echoing
From London fan’s up for the trip.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 United fans pie-less
Looked on somewhat silenced
While we hunted for three points with style
As a perplexed boxed in Rooney
Looked on rather gloomily
A wholly impotent Berbatov, smiled.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Would our possession mean points?
In a frightening joint
Where lesser teams crumble and fall?
Would we keep a clean sheet?
For the first time in weeks
By retaining control of the ball?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Attacking at will
A staid Neville looked ill
As Flo skated by him with ease
Then a Joey Cole flick
Performed pretty slick
Gave those in Blue hope and belief.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Well up for the fight
We stifled United
Who couldn’t get hold of the ball?
While an under-worked Cech
Heard a packed Stretford End
Singing: nothing; whatsoever at all.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 When The Drog made it two
With an offside miscue
The three points it seemed were bound south
Then a right fluky goal
Tuned the volume up low
From previously silent Manc mouth’s.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 The end? It soon came
With the points we had gained
On the road, we were back at the top
And voiceless Manc fans
In defeat left the stands
As the title race pressure cranks up.

Notes

What happened to the once intimidating atmosphere and the frightening noise from the Stretford End? I don’t think I’ve ever heard Old Trafford’s crowd so quiet during a game.

“Mind you having said that Brian (Moore), our record up at Old Trafford is pretty good, so Saturday’s result came as no shock to those of us in Blue, who’ve come by now to expect a decent result of sort’s every time we play them up there.”

The race is on.

Peace.
