The Silly Season

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 What will they discuss when the season’s done?
What will they discuss, my darling young one?

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Well they’ll talk about transfers and wild speculation
and they’ll talk about rumours and prevarication
and they’ll interview agents with eyes on commission
and they’ll talk about victims in the war of attrition
and they’ll interview pundits whose predictions are rotten
and interview players who have long been forgotten
and they’ll focus on rumours that often prove baseless
and they’ll quote things on Twitter from fans who are faceless
and it’s the silly, yes it’s the silly,
it’s the silly, silly, silly, silly,
the silly season once again.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Who’s on the move when the season’s done?
Who’s on the move, my darling young one?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Well there’s those that were injured for most of last season
and those who were poor and don’t have a reason,
and there’s those who went down to a lower division
and now think a move is the wisest decision
and there’s those in small clubs who search for a way out
to get to Nirvana and achieve a big pay out
and there’s those who simply want to play in the first team
and decide they should move, even though to a worse team
and Georgian midfielders and Polish defenders
who may be okay or they could be pretenders
and it’s the silly, yes it’s the silly,
it’s the silly, silly, silly, silly,
the silly season once again.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Where will you go when the season’s done?
Where will you go, my darling young one?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I’m gonna go to Sky Sports and read every headline,
count down the minutes to the new transfer deadline,
I’m gonna watch all the friendlies and form wrong opinions
and watch the big clubs go and milk the dominions.
I’m gonna go down the store and buy the new jersey,
gonna slag all the fans from the Tyne and the Mersey.
I’m gonna make bold predictions that no-one will remember
that’ll have to be revised come the end of September,
for it’s the great soap opera for men and men only
and we’re caught in the headlights for we’re all sad and lonely
and it’s the silly, yes it’s the silly,
it’s the silly, silly, silly, silly,
the silly season once again.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 What’ll you tweet when the season’s done?
What will you tweet, my darling young one?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 I’m gonna tweet about transfers and midsummer signings,
favourites leaving with bright silver linings,
gonna tweet about tickets and next season’s prices,
gonna tweet that our rivals are facing a crisis
and I heard from a friend of a guy down the bookies
that they’re starting in August with a team full of rookies
and Rooney is leaving and Rooney is staying
and Mourinho don’t know if Lamps will be playing
and I’ll tweet about rumours of who will be leaving
till no-one will know what they should be believing
and it’s the silly, yes it’s the silly,
it’s the silly, silly, silly, silly,
the silly season once again.
