3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 We have watched our heroes battle on the muddy football field.
Chanting the terrace chant “United”!
When your team comes to Old Trafford, its fate’s already sealed.
Chant, chant the terrace chant “United”!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 United forever! It’s Man U who rule.
Down with The Gunners, Sky Blues and The ‘Pool.
Sixty thousand lusty voices will all cry until they’re hoarse,
The Old Chant, the terrace chant “United”!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Well, we lost a team at Munich, built a new one up from scratch.
Chanting the terrace chant “United”!
Thanks to Bestie, Law and Charlton right on top we soon were back.
Chant, chant the terrace chant “United”!

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Immortal United! From ashes we rose.
Soared sky-high like eagles, confounded our foes.
Then new fans flocked to our banner in far-flung foreign parts,
And chanted the terrace chant “United”!

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 You can keep your Windows Wenger, José, Kev or Rafael.

Notes

For Bob Litt.

This poem is a re-working of the American Civil War song
The Battle Cry of Freedom by George F. Root.

Greetings from Genoa,
Denys

Dear editors, I have just seen my poem Wailing for Wayne on this site – thank you, it looks beautiful, much better than on Bluekipper. Now here I am with a United Anthem! I hope you find it ok. You might object to my use of the term “Gerries”, well, feel free to change it to “Germans”. If you do not like the line “We heiled the Sieg”, well, I do not know how that can be changed, you will have to think of something….
I will send you something from my back catalogue as soon as I get time.
Regards, Denys E. W. Jones

Editors note :
Denys – 2 couplets revised – I’m sure you’ll approve.
