The Trouble I Had Getting There.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 As I bought a train ticket to London
To go’an watch me favourite side
The ticket box Herbert never let on
That in London the tubes were on strike.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 So cutting it fine from the suburbs
To get to the game across town
I was ever so slightly put out and perturbed
To find the underground system shut down.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 With twenty minutes left before kick off
I pondered on going back home
Just then a hackney pulled up to a stop
So me mind was made up I would go.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 At ten minutes past three, the taxi and me
Pulled up at the gates to my dreams
The streets round the ground by now empty
Cept for stragglers like me racing in.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 With a pony on the clock I was in for a shock*
When I eyeballed cab fare on the meter
With a programme to come and a seat for me bum
Cabby said “This footballing lark don’t cheap squire”.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 I missed our first goal through me abscence
Being late getting up to me seat
But when full time came. I was stood there enraptured
As Man City by six goals were beat!

Cheers to London underground for not letting us football fans know at our point of departure that the subway system was shut down and that we wouldn’t be able to get across the city, when we managed to eventually get in to it (the city), that is….once again!

I went home on the tube from the city on Friday evening and there was no prior warning about was to come on the Saturday, then, either.

Turned in to be a right expensive day out at the football, but after watching a team performance like that? Never the less well worth it!

A pony in Cockney slang is twenty five quid, and I had to tell him (the cab driver) all the short cuts and back doubles to get to our ground quickly whilst at the same time avoiding traffic lights. I felt at one stage as if I was driving the cab! He should have paid me for showing him how to get around London, at the double!
