Coventry City were playing Tottenham Hotspur
The Spurs were the bookies red hot favourites
But the Sky Blues fans and team did not concur.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Spurs had Ray Clemence between the sticks
And Ossie Ardiles and the classy Glen Hoddle
Up front the prolific goal scorer Clive Allen
On the wing was Englands Chris Waddle.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 In defence was ” mister versatile” Gary Mabbutt
Alongside him the tough Scot Richard Gough
A midfield boasting the lively Steve Hodge
You could see why they were favourites from the off.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Coventry City had no real big stars
Just a side that would never give up
But with the powerful sriker Cyrille Regis
On the attack, why couldn’t they lift the Cup?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 In goal they had the giant Steve “oggy” Ogrizovic
The captain was the rugged Brian “killer” Kilkline
In midfield the tough tackling Lloyd Mcgrath
With the dribbling Dave Bennet crossing fron the line.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Alongside Regis was the journeyman Keith Houchen
The much travelled striker was not a household name
But his great diving header has gone down as
One of the best ever seen in a Wembley Cup Final game.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 So the game went into the dreaded extra-time
And at 2-2 it could have gone either way
But when Gary Mabbutt scored an own goal
And the whistle went, it really was the underdogs day.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 So let this be a lesson to the Goliaths
Don’t ever underestimate the “smaller teams”
They may turn out to be your worst nightmare
While they go on to live out their dreams !

Thought I’d take a trip down memory lane, to possibly the greatest day in my clubs history, and I read recently, that Houchens goal was voted the best ever in a Cup Final, Roy of the Rovers stuff or what !
