The Underdrogs are Coming

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 There’s a whisper in the air,
You can sense it everywhere,
A veritable feeling of foreboding.
And it’s starting to get strong,
And you know before too long,
That the country will be watching it exploding.
Now the pace is picking up,
As they sense that silver cup,
Their paws sound like ten thousand drummers drumming
And the ground begins to shake
For you know without mistake
That the mighty pack of Underdrogs is coming.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 On the brow of yonder hill,
They are watching proud and still,
As the Champions raise glasses to the double.
But the glint that lights their eye
Flashes right across the sky,
And you know that crashing thunder heralds trouble.
Barely audible at first
And quite clearly unrehearsed
Comes the drone of many thousand voices humming.
And it carries cross the gorge,
Warning Joe and Gorgeous George
That the unrelenting Underdrogs are coming.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 At their peak and in their prime,
They wait patiently as time
Crawls so painfully towards their finest hour.
And they’re picking up the scent
And beginning their descent
With an overwhelming feeling of great power.
And the angels up on high
Join the chorus in the sky
That accompanies a lonely guitar strumming.
There’s a purpose in their gaze
That the Rebels won’t erase,
For the hungry, leering Underdrogs are coming.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 With great tongues they lick their lips
As their tired opponent slips
And they gather round to make the final killing.
And the stream of flowing blood
Trickles darkly through the mud
As the denouement is terrible and chilling.
There’s a sense of wounded pride
Welling up from deep inside
That the casual observer might find numbing,
But frustration quickly boils
And a startled world recoils
For the yelping, howling,
Snarling, growling,
Stalking, prowling,
Biting, scowling,
Wild and savage Underdrogs are coming.
