The Unsung Heroes Of Football

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 What about all of the hardcore supporters
Sticking with their clubs through thick and thin
Having to endure endless seasons of misery
When they lose more games than they ever win.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 And mega respect to all the non league fans
The ones who follow clubs so much further down
Not for them Man United,Chelsea,or the Arsenal,
But teams like Barrow, York city, and Crawley Town.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And let’s not forget the one club player
Those that stay loyal to just one side
They’re happy to stay in the one place
Wearing the clubs colours with so much pride.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Let me tell you about a lady called Phyllis Pyle
She’s by far Coventry City’s oldest living fan
This remarkable woman is one hundred years old
And still listens to the games on her radio when she can.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Phyllis Pyle goes to prove that age doesn’t really matter
Football still belongs to the young and the old
And for following Coventry City for eighty plus years
She deserves a medal made out of solid gold !

Notes

Phyllis is a remarkable elderly lady here from Coventry, and she went to her first game with her father aged twelve and was hooked straightaway. She’s been a fan for a staggering eighty eight years.
When we won the Cup in 87, she got told off for standing on her seat celebrating the victory at Wembley, she was then 76 years of age !
Stewards don’t you just love them !
Editor Note: Another worthy contribution to our current Things We’d Change Poems section
