The World Cup

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The World Cup is here
It’s been away for 4 years
South Africa is where it starts
That’s where there will be many broken hearts.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 People will come from near and far
By train, bus and even by car
The football family has come together
To sing and dance no matter the weather

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Apartheid once roamed this land
President de Klerk ruled with a firm hand
Nelson Mandela was taken away
And the people hoped he’d be free one day.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 20 years from this, all stopped
And now South Africa feels back on top
The World Cup has brought new hope
and after the World Cup, we still can cope.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Throughout the world, people will cheer
Singing and dancing and drinking cheap beer
The big televisions will be on full show
People shouting their team ‘go go go’.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Teams will go home with sadness in their hearts
Wishing the tournament would restart
Another 4 years till the tournament starts
When they return again with beating hearts.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 The 11th of July is where it all ends
When people go home having made new friends
This line I feel I must put in
Let’s just hope England doesn’t win!
