The Wright Stuff

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Billy Wright of Wolves was quite a tackler of ferocity,
Honest and straight-talking and devoid of all pomposity,
The first of England’s players to amass a hundred caps,
And the finest centre half that England ever had, perhaps.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 The singing group of fifties England was the Beverley Sisters,
Just before the rock ‘n’ rollers, teddies, mods and twisters.
Joy Beverley was pretty and her voice was a delight,
And everyone applauded when she married Mr. Wright.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Before the days of mini-skirts, before the days of sex,
Joy and Billy were the nineteen fifties’ Posh and Becks.
A marriage made in heaven, it was comfortable and strong,
Though I cannot quite imagine Billy Wright in a sarong.
