There is pain and then there is pain

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 I’ve suffered thirst
And feared the worst
When crossing the Sahara.
I’ve felt the knocks
Of jagged rocks
Above in Connemara.
The Arctic wind
Left nose ends skinned
And sneezing wasn’t easy,
While insect bites
Knocked out my lights,
Descending the Zambesi.
In Kazakhstan I fought a man
Who left me bowed and bloodied
While in Phnom Penh
I near drowned when
The lower parts were flooded.
I stubbed my toe
In Idaho,
I lanced a boil in Woking
And in Dubai
My throat was dry
From too much Camel smoking.
I got the flu
Down in Peru
And fainting spells were many,
But I’ve never had
A pain as bad
As Shels against Kilkenny.

Notes

Shels 0 Kilkenny 0. An absolutely dreadful match. Note, the game was played and the poem written before Ireland’s marvellous draw at home to Cyprus on Wednesday
