There’s a Goose Loose aboot this Hoose

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 We’re all going on a summer holiday
The football season has begun
It’s the Milk-League-Carling-EFL Cup
The chance for a decent cup run

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Norwich City played pretty well
Scoring three goals in the first forty-five
The rain was teeming, attendance so-so
Enjoying ‘the return’ of watching it live

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Well, wouldn’t you know it
“the biggest cheer of the night”
Went to The Goose on the wing
Who did three laps on his debut flight

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Being an August cup game
Even though we’d already scored
The crowd were easily led and distracted
(Though I wouldn’t say they were bored)

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The Goose sparked off a Mexican wave
As he flew past each stand to applause
After three laps he disappeared down the steps
To the concourse, like on all stadium tours

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 A gallant fan gave up his jacket
The Goose was safely wrapped
Released to safety, no harm done
The crowd laughed and whooped and clapped

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 A good night was had by all
City go through to the next thrilling round
But what fans really hope for (other than Ipswich at home)
Is the return of The Goose to our ground

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Though, like all good tales, I realise
You really had to be there
Our goose puns will soon fall flat
But it was fun, and fun should always be shared

Well what can I say? The Goose, City’s latest signing, made a positive impact on the game. A former recluse, he had his 15 minutes of fame.
Right, that’s enough. Stop being silly. Wait, in this bad old world we have to get joy where we can. I had a happy ten minutes thinking up rhymes for ‘goose’ – Steve Bruce, what the deuce, orange juice, dogs abuse. Oh, whats the use, I’ll call a truce.
PS. Did you know we’ve got a new No. 1 keeper, Angoose Gunn?
Son of our legend Bryan Gunn. The headline writers love him and so do we.
PPS. The Goose has his own Twitter account. “I’m a goose, not a duck”. Which as a poet, I was really pleased about.
