There’s Hope Arsenal (After All)

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 “The Werewolf” was laughing and taking the mick
“Sicknote” sat there smug and aloof
How refreshing to see punditry minus the shtick
As Paul Merson came out with the truth

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 “Arsenal could have gone in, three nil down
At the break” said Merson
Which, in his view, was what he had seen
He didn’t just sit there and agree with those other two berks
Spouting such rubbish, it’s hard to take in

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 How cool to just call it, as this sofa fan saw it
A frantic and keenly fought draw
Without words so absurd, you raise questions disturbed
‘Were they actually watching the same game I just saw’?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 How great to hear “They’ve come for a draw
They’ve committed no-one to attack”
Instead of those yawn on’s that kill you with boredom
Like the words of some washed up old hack

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 It’s fair to say, I’ve been off Sky for some days
With the lack of un-biased dialogue
But in Paul Merson, we may at least, have a chance of some good
That’s stops football punditry being flushed down the bog

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Give me your view, I’ll be pleased if you do
Give me the benefit of your immense football brain
But don’t you dare come in to me sitting room, telling me it’s sunny,
When I can clearly see on t.v, that it’s…. raining !

Notes

I switched on my telly, to catch the match on Sky yesterday, to hear punditry of such total honesty, I was moved to pen the above.

Richard Keys and Jamie Redknapp looked as if a martian had landed on the sofa beside them, when Paul Merson started to give his view on the fast approaching Chelsea v Arsenal game with such clarity and conviction minus the useless diatribe that ex-pro’s usually use, that the pair of them looked, completely dumbfounded and later, on….in awe!

Why even Andy Gray, was moved to talk about Merson’s comments, during his match commentary. So it must have been…quite something.

A pundit calling it as it as he see’s it, with honesty and in plain speak, no ‘ they’ve got to up the tempo’ every other blimmin minute. How really refreshing it was to hear, tis indeed a shame that we don’t get to hear a lot more of the same?

Hats off to Sky, who I’ve slagged off here before now, for at least having a go at trying a different approach, to make the intervals and previews, in these televised games more interesting for the armchair punter.
