This Poem Is Dedicated To All Keepers.

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 When I was a young fella
We were poor as can be
But unhappy we were not
Me mam, da and me
From over the sea
Couldn’t afford a lot

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 We’d play out and we’d fight
Till late at night
Till time came to go indoors
Football was all
We had to enjoy
Cos it was just
After the war

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 I heard of Bert Trautmann
A strangely named stoutman
Playing with a broken neck
Would yer head still stay on
If your necks broke and gone
Or would it just fall on the deck?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 We’d all talk of Lev Yashin
In a strange Russian accent
To try to impress all the girls
The great Yashin wore black
But I’d only a mac and no cap
To keep rain off me curls!

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Tony Macedo
Of Fulham
Was weird though
How’d yer get a name like that?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 But poor Peter Bonetti
Whose name rhymed
With spaghetti
Went and changed
His to just Cat!

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Now that Gordon Banks
Put one past him?
No chance
His hands and his body
Were vast

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Pele thought he scored
The Brazilian fans roared
With one hand
That save was just class!

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 I’m told Gary Sprake
Suffered with shakes
Each time he went on the pitch
With Hunter out there
He hadn’t a care
Cos Big Norman
Kicked opponents to bits!

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Me da often he told me
And always so boldly
That the king of them all
Was Frank Swift
No better keeper
Was ever loved sweeter
Than the way City fans
Loved this guys gift

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 This lovely bloke
With a heart like an oak
At Maine Road
Was worshipped on high
The saves that he made
Are still talked off today
A keeper who’s net worth was high!!!

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 peace.

Notes
