Time For A Change. Methinks?

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Without defensive solidarity
Or scant chance of parity
Our bus hits a wall in Gdansk
Even if Lech was there leading
We’d have still seen a beating
From the classy and worthy World Champs.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Our self-imposed downfall
Of losing the ball
In the kamikaze part of the pitch
Saw an impotent striker
Score not once but twice
As a result of our generous gifts.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Make no mistake
Spain have more than it takes
To walk this without breaking a sweat
Though it seems clear to me
Last night’s victory
Is the easiest one that they’ll get?

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 On a studio sofa
Roy Keane mulled it over
Then tore in to the team with his tongue
Castigating the defence
For it’s Sunday football mentality
Against the current Worlds number one.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 I really felt for Irish fans
Who four down raised their hands
Belting out “The Fields of Athenry”
Solidarity’s Walensa
Would have been touched by this gesture
Of: We’re still loyal to the cause, though behind.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Last night’s aging aces
Must retire and new faces
Should now grasp the Green shirt with pride
Though defeat has been painful
Might the last match be gainful?
With Italy playing a charged Irish side?

Notes

Oh dear. Or “what harm bhoy” as members of our family in Cork are fond of saying with great optimism, when it all goes pear shaped, as it last night in Gdansk.

Time for changes within the ranks of the Irish team? I think so.

The Italians are in for a real shock in the last match, mark my words, as Ray Houghton comes out of retirement for the cause.

Go well and be lucky.

Peace.

Kev.
