To “The Football’s” Where We Go!!!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 A walk along the embankment
By the Thames
Takes you to the Bridge
To miss a home game on any day
Would just be sacrilege
As you pass the house-boats at the Worlds End
Excitements building up
It might be a premier league game
Or European cup
Hit the Kings Road in to the sea of blue
That trails up to the Bridge
By now all thoughts are left behind
For this is why you live
The smell of greasy onions
Programmes with ink still wet
Find yourself a betting shop
In which to have a bet
Meet the faces that you’ve known
For fourty years or more
Even through the bad times
We still come back for more
Promotion, relegation
We don’t care at all
Its the way the team is playing
That matters most of all
What is it?
This love we have?
I must just call it love
Would you stand there in the freezing cold
If it was’nt the above?
I never question it at all
Just what makes us go
But every Saturday
Come rain or shine
To “The Football’s” where we go!!!

Notes

I’m born in Pimlico across the Thames
From the power station at Battersea
Along with Spangle Hill in County Cork
Its the only place for me!!!
So Parry Maguire and your Mersey
That face the Irish Sea
Come see The Thames at Pimlico
On the way to see Chelsea!!!
(In the champions league semi final first leg!)

peace.

kev.
