Is 18 years old
He is not a footballer
He does not play on a pitch
Of green grass
With jumpers for goal posts
Tom Awongo
Was a soldier in Sudan
In the Lord’s Resistance Army
He knows how it feels
To saw off the ears
Of a dead man
To breathe in the smoke
Of burning flesh
To have a bullet
Shatter your knee
To be so hungry
You want to curl up and
Die
Tom Awongo
Was abucted by
the Lord’s Resistance Army
When he was 15 years old
Tom Awongo
Is just a child.
