Up The Villa!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 As a former giant of The Midlands
Fall’s away to a lower league
I can’t help but note the distance
Between the now, and Villa’s football history.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Slid down that glassy road myself
Once or twice in fact
It’s like your hearts been broken by a girl
Or chap, and you can’t see no way back.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 When the fixture list comes out once more
Is when it’s painfully driven home
No Old Trafford, Anfield, or even them next door,
(Who might just win the league), up the flipping road.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 The Holt will have a sombre mood
About it till the very end
Questions asked…”What do we do
and how come we can’ defend”?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 There’s the ridicule of your work-mates
Them what follow some other club
Casting slight on your strikers weight
From spending too much time in pub.

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Family loyalties will be questioned
Some will even think of changing shirts?
Okay, okay maybe that’s an over-reaction
Which can often happen when ones hurt.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 In the pubs best mates will want to know
Can we really bounce back first time?
Or be up and down like a yo yo,
Forever in the bottom five?

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 You can forget about the players
They don’t feel your pain
Most of them won’t be stayers
After all…to them it’s just a game.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 A new manager gets chosen
There’s a buzz about the place
You’ve made a decent bid for so and so
Then your heartbeat starts to race.

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 On a beach somewhere you get a text
“We’ve just signed Bagsus Goals”
So you quickly jump on to the internet
To google up your God-like bloke.

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 You’re promoted as The Champions
Without a single ball being kicked
See how quick your renewed enthusiasm
Can sway the mood, from one of being parrot sick?

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 Seems like you know all the answers mate?
Naaaaaaaaaah. Not this West London man
But what I do know is…that’s the chance you take,
When you’re a loyal one club fan.

Notes

This is one of the few things I dislike about football fandom. This relegation stuff hurts – really hurts – more than those who’ve never experienced it can possibly imagine.

Up The Villa. (A club with wonderful fans).

Stay well, be lucky and keep smiling.

Peace.

Kev.
