Up Where We Belong

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 The thunder like a pair of cymbals crashed.
The lightning like a jagged arrow flashed.
The heavens opened wide
And the Lord looked down with pride,
As Longford Town and Shelbourne boldly clashed.
Cherubim and seraphim regaled the happy throng,
A million joyous voices praising heaven in their song.
God placed us on the mountain, up where we belong.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Longford got their kickers in a tangle,
As Richie really put them through the mangle.
They simply stood and stared
Quite completely unprepared,
As Jayo struck from such a narrow angle.
I feel so much like gloating, but I know it would be wrong,
The feast was laid out carefully and someone banged a gong,
God placed us on the mountain, up where we belong.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Jayo very soon returned the favour,
Richie gave us victory to savour,
But Longford spat it out
With an inauspicious shout,
Complaining that they didn’t like the flavour.
The grass upon the mountain top was scented thick and strong,
The vapour gelled our senses and we breathed it hard and long,
God placed us on the mountain, up where we belong.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Countrywide, the scores all went our way,
Cork and Derry lost, to their dismay.
And though the others scoffed,
We’re now sitting here aloft,
As the others scramble up in disarray.
The campfire’s burning brightly as we pass the billabong,
The Devil shakes his pitchfork, but it doesn’t have a prong,
God placed us on the mountain, up where we belong.

Notes

Don’t you love it when every result goes your way?
