VE Day

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 We drove over the magic roundabout,
Elder sister Fliss, wife Trish and me,
As a few straggling fans made their desultory way
To the County Ground’s last game of the season,
Chesterfield and a one all draw;
“25 quid for that? They must be barmy.
But I suppose it’s that loyalty that keeps the club going.”
“60 years tomorrow, Stu, I must have walked around a bonfire,
Just over there, outside 23 Langford Grove,
And I burned the Adolf guy that mum made.”
And now, 60 years later, to the day,
Mum agrees that she’ll have to go into a care home.
From dancing in the street to a catheter and a zimmer frame.
