velocipede

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 from football
to velocipede
that’ll do me nicely

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 as the USA
surprise the Spanish
to put it most precisely

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 so out of form
it’s not their norm
let’s hope they take it on the chin

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 while the Spanish mourn
the Yankees spawn
a most unexpected win

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 I take to the saddle
my feet spryly straddle
the mile churning chain

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 it may be sore
but I’m up for more
tonight it’s the Spaniards feel the pain

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 I fly past cemetries
with flexi knees
at full pumping power

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 the panorama pulls
I race bucking bulls
Señors and Señoritas left feeling sour

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 and one delights
at red sky nights
but Spanish dreams left in tatters

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 so this pedaling poet
will try to show it
how much football really matters!

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 😉

Notes

The G series:
poems inspired by cycling around Galway, in particular Oranmore.
24th June 2009

I just keep riding until the road runs out!

Tonight’s trip was via Maree to Creganna and back, straight after watching the Confedaration Cup semi-Final,
where the USA unexpectedly beat Spain 2-0,
and also ended Spain’s world record equalling run of 35 international matches without defeat
