Very Superstitious!

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Cue: a patio, rub a dub*
Quaffing beer, and eating grub
Where we sat in anguish waiting on the start
Gareth Southgate sure mimes well
As what he said I couldn’t tell
It was drowned out by the sound of pounding hearts.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 A camera zoomed in from the sky
On cue the signal: kick off time
Which seemed to me at least a tad surreal
An aerial picture of the start
Must be Platini’s slant on art
Which I’m sure he’ll say will broaden games appeal.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Chewing nails whilst eating crisps
We twitched our legs in nervous kicks
Living every effort of the team
This night could well be long
As out in Amsterdam a song
Stirred the stuck at homes in to the dream.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 We were in there pinned against the ropes
Our rearguard strong enforced by hope
Occasionally mounting an attack
When all of a sudden things went dark
As the outside telly blew a spark
And our blue arena turned a deathly black.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 We were in a quandary: what to do?
The air of expectancy turned blue
So we listened to the wireless and made plans
Would “The Rising Sun” shine on the game?
Or would “The Ferry” cross the way
Get us back in touch with Amsterdam?

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 When half time came we grabbed our bags
Then from a distance watched the lads
Hit the front, then scream out “Nah, a pen”
We prayed that Ptre Cech the brave
Would guess it right and save the day
T’was not be, we were even once again.

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 When Frankie Lamps caressed the bar
A crowded boozer screamed “Aw Nah”*
As an Ammer shouted “Blues to win 2-1”
Though he’d wagered Mata to oblige
We didn’t care when on the night
Brana’s header looped in slow mo, we had won.

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 We’re in a quarto so elite*
The record books will show that we
Were up there with the giants of the game
Our slated boss has shown that he
Knows more than us on picking teams
So now we’re inter him we’ll loudly cheer his name.

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 A spooky tale on pub we left
When the lights went out left fans bereft
Which mates of ours have body swerved all season
“Ain’t going in there to watch the chaps
They never seem to win a match”
A Davy’s Locker of a place, the given reason!

Notes

A big shout goes out to Rafa Benitez and the lads on a really blinding win. I was of those who totally believed in your vision Rafa. Straight up stand on me I was. Yeah right!

*It seems we’ve joined: Juventus, Ajax and Bayern Munich as one of only four teams to have won: The Champions League / European Cup, Cup Winners Cup, and Europa League / UEFA Cup, and Benitez ain’t got a bad haul in his personal silverware department either has he?

*Rub a dub is slang for a pub, and for us Londoners Ah Naw means Oh No. Nah is quite obviously No.

We know what we are, we know what we arrrrrrr Europa League Champions is what we are!

There’s a new chant for the new season already eh?

Carefree…braised on “Celery”

Go well and be lucky.

Peace.

Kev.
