Waiting For England To Score

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 haven’t we been here before
when was it we knew for sure?
expectations used to soar
waiting for England to score

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 on the screen and in the stand
from the ever-patient fan
to the endless droning band
waiting for England to score
endlessly we run around
paper boats that run aground
hopeless lost but never found
waiting for England to score

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 games through which we used to sail
now we just prepare to fail
words like av’rage start to pale
waiting for England to score
losing matches free of style
paint your face and bring your child
warn them it could be a while
waiting for England to score

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 optimistic ev’ry time
mountains that we never climb
we make goal kicks look sublime
waiting for England to score
I confess it’s time that I’d
rather watch my washing dry
even Scottish fans might cry
waiting for England to score

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 from a League that raised the bar
filled with talent from afar
longing for a home-grown star
waiting for England to score
where’s the pride we used to see
gone is our consistency
just like 1973
waiting for England to score

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 look to youth the pundits say
they will get their chance one day
not if we go on this way
waiting for England to score

Apologies for the abject negativity and call me cynical, but with football fast disappearing from our TV screens, there’s currently more chance of one going in from Steve Davis in the jungle ( without a cue) than us scoring lately..Unless that is ,we can play San Morino or Montenegro every week, ( who we also managed to make look awesome btw).

And to think ITV sacrificed the euphoric ‘I’m Another Celebrity You’ve Never Heard Of’ for this ?

Meanwhile, bring on the mighty Denmark for another meaningless friendly, where we try some more new players who won’t go to Brazil. When surprise-surprise, on the eve of the game, another host of golden/goal-less and suddenly unavailable (apparently) injured players are revealed hobbling from nightclubs. Only to then recover miraculously for their weekend league or up-coming Chumps League match. Tell me about it!

Yes please interrupt our weekly football again soon for another equally tortuous match… and with it another football-staved fortnight of the supposed ‘top-level’ atmosphere-less and over-priced games. This in a Premier Legue (“best in the world”~yeah right) where we pass the time by counting the ever-dwindling number of English players on show .Whatever being ‘English’ is?

Oh Roy ..anyone….help us out there. Thoughts?
