Waterford 0 Derry City 1

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 They’ve been whingeing through the season
‘Bout those Dublin referees,
Claiming they’re the only reason
Life for them is not a breeze.
Far more sinned-against than sinning,
Sanctimonious and pious,
They’re not out in front and winning
Due to anti-Dublin bias.

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Yet when they played down by the Suir,
Only four short days gone by,
Was the justice not impure
That made both Blues and Redsmen cry?
With a penno claim rejected
As the final whistle neared,
Frustration was injected
As the ball was roundly cleared.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 And sure Derry broke out quickly,
With the time for playing past,
And in denouement quite sickly,
Scored a winning goal at last.
I won’t say it was squalid
But to quote dear Rico, we
Have been ridden rock solid
By a Dublin referee.

Notes

Cork manager, Damien “Rico” Richardson complained during the season about having been “ridden rock solid” by Dublin referees. Derry too have complained long and loud about biased Dublin refs.
Ironic then that a Dublin ref should wave away seemingly legitimate claims for a Waterford penalty and then with time added on well and truly gone, Derry go and score a very late winner.
Shels and Derry both on 59 points, one game each left (possibly two for Shels, or possibly not) D-day this Friday.
