WC 2006 : Day 08

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 “It was a masterclass in quality, balance, passing, control and finishing. If I see a better goal in the World Cup I’m going home. It was 24 passes of total control. They tore them to shreds.”
Alan Hansen, pundit for Match of the Day

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 Alan, you’re staying put!
For you, there’ll be no going home
If this were Italia ’90, I’d pledge :
We’ll see the Argies in Rome

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 But seeing as it’s 2006
I’ll have to say they’re Berlin bound
And a better goal in any World Cup
Will surely never be found

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 So more of the same please
Of punditry and plunder
For what joys we shall see
As they tear all teams asunder

Notes

“It was a masterclass in quality, balance, passing, control and finishing. If I see a better goal in the World Cup I’m going home. It was 24 passes of total control. They tore them to shreds.”
Alan Hansen, pundit for Match of the Day

And will there be a better or more eloquent appraisal of genius?

I have to agree with the top pundit of the lot.

Though I’d still vote for that Carlos Alberto goal (4th goal in 1970 World Cup) because it left such an impression on me and fashioned my football psyche.

But still, this one today will send a tingle down my spine every time I see it!
