WC 2006 : Day 11

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 To go or not to go, that is the question

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 or : in out, in out, shake it all about?

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Verilye, they qualifyed, therefor were in
Couldn’t agree win bonuses, forsooth, they opted out
Dispute sorted out, so in again
Played and lost but impressed
Tho dispute still rankled, manager irked
So this time Herr Pfister would not make a fist of it, so he walked …..
Obviously not too far away, for he returned
Only for the players to organise ye olde boycotte
Springs to mind : out, pram, toys, cot
FIFA stepped in, boys stepped out … onto pitch
Swiss efficiency, showed up the deficiency, in preparation
Now, no reparation, required
For their hopes, have expired
By logging in, I see that they are out
By staying in and competing, they can turf La Francaise out
Portents, they should repaire to ye anciente inn
Mull it over, over mulled wine, or perhaps stoute
And with or without whine
Stay till the last shout!

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Ukraine 4 – 0 Saudi Arabia

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 The Ukraine
do what Spain
did unto them

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 Rebrov beauty
does its duty
produces a gem

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 Four to none
they had it won
all too easy

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 Saudi’s sick
head home quick
feeling queasy

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 Spain 3 – 1 Tunisia

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 Cesc Fabregas
is a boy among matadors
but soon enough
Les Hombres
will bow before
the picador
with the puntilla pass

Notes

Picador : fighter to weaken the bull
Puntilla : a dagger that is stabbed into the base of the bull’s skull
– I’m thinking : an alternative to the phrase ‘killer pass’

Spain were losing 1-0 to Tunisia and struggling to get on top, until Cesc Fabregas entered the fray.
He looks sheer quality.
