WC 2006 : Day 15

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 Why I missed all the action

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 It’s a tough ol’ job and I’m hard at it
working my fingers to the bone –
but at least I have them
not like that poor unfortunate soul,
John Paul Getty

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Still, it’s a Friday evening, I’ll soon be heading home to the family
And our cute little kitten called Betty

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Stuck in traffic, hardly moving
like a trolley on a travelator
my mind wanders off to World Cups past
and long forgotten stars –
anyone remember Facchetti?

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 I reach home and what a welcome –
The kids are crying, no-one has seen Betty

6 Leave a comment on verse 6 0 What I really wanted,
was kisses goodnight
a nice glass of Chianti
settle down in front of France v Togo
with a big plate of spaghetti

7 Leave a comment on verse 7 0 But no, someone has to go find Betty

8 Leave a comment on verse 8 0 All the fun of the pun
enjoyed by the media
I wanted to hear of any new gems
but all I could hear, were the cries of fear
and someone playing Tom Petty

9 Leave a comment on verse 9 0 I searched and searched, but still no sign of Betty

10 Leave a comment on verse 10 0 At least, I consoled myself,
there’ll be the highlights later
a chance to see the poetic pairing
of Spain and Ukraine, advance
leaving behind Tunisia and Saudi Arabia

11 Leave a comment on verse 11 0 But, with only next door’s cat for company,
I had to continue my search
I found lost footballs, empty spray cans
an odd shoe, an even keel –
yes, 40 miles inland and I find
a small dinghy in need of a jetty

12 Leave a comment on verse 12 0 But still no sign of Betty

13 Leave a comment on verse 13 0 I knew I was in trouble now
more so than the French
as apparently, they no longer had to go (home)
whereas I, I traipsed back to ma maison most despondently
just like the underdogs, defeated and sweaty

14 Leave a comment on verse 14 0 But lo and behold, what did I find –
The wife happily cuddled up to ….

15 Leave a comment on verse 15 0 Johnathon Ross and Bruce Willis!

Notes

She had control of the remote and wasn’t giving it up!
As for Betty – she strolled home in the wee small hours – it’s all ahead of me!
