WC 2006 : Day 29

1 Leave a comment on verse 1 0 There are 52 people
Who may or may not have had any interest in the World Cup
Who were denied that right to choose, on this day last year

2 Leave a comment on verse 2 0 They were just going about their normal lives
Without harmful wish or injurious intent
Before their very beings ended in a flash of fear

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 Another lost his life two weeks later
Cornered and shot at point blank range by the police
His only crime? Incomprehension and wearing a parka

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Perhaps this young man would have been following, like us
His native Brazil, delighted then bewildered by their progress
But who’s to know? Alas, for all these families, their days grow darker

Notes

Dedicated to all who lost loved ones this day last year
And also to the family of Jean Charles de Menezes
who was shot and killed by the police on a tube train, even though he was unconnected to the London Underground & London Bus bombings.

May they Rest In Peace.
