we’re really quite distraught to see you go.

was quite a sad and undeservéd blow
for every football aficionado.

3 Leave a comment on verse 3 0 It must have crushed your dreams of El Dorado
but did you dive and foul and cry? Oh no.
Farewell, Japan, we relished your bravado.

4 Leave a comment on verse 4 0 Every man a Samurai desperado;
despite the odds, you put on quite a show
for every football aficionado.

5 Leave a comment on verse 5 0 Sweet, yet unrefined, like muscovado,
your honesty set neutral hearts aglow.

Notes

Okay, Japan weren’t very good but their behaviour was immaculate compared to some of the diving and rolling round the floor and imaginary card waving and cynical fouling that’s been going on. And kudos too to the fans who helped to clear the litter from the stadia after every match, despite their poor results.
